The Small Gods
The NA dystopian/fantasy series that follows six Guilds warring for power in the city of Night-Wing whilst trying to solve a gruesome murder mystery.
The Story
Thirty-five years after the Great War, chemical waste has ravaged the world as we know it. Only one city remains, and with it is the remnants of humankind. In the post-apocalyptic city of Night-Wing, six Guilds war for power amidst corruption, greed and political strife. But things have become much more complicated, murder is highly sanctioned in Night-Wing and any citizen breaking the CODE will be disposed of by the infamous assassins Guild. So, when one of the assassins own turns up brutally murdered in the streets of the city, questions are raised and fear seeps into the people. Our heroes from The Small Gods Guild must investigate the truth behind the murder, and as their investigation continues it becomes apparent that there is something far more deadly at play than civil war.
In the West, the Harmonists are luring in the poverty-stricken with promises of enlightenment at their services. But rumours are beginning to spread that suggest the Harmonist leader is far more corrupt than they first appear. The Rifters are struggling to deliver enough treble and bass to the Harmonists, and when their own are killed they demand justice. But the Government are not so easily swayed and it seems the Rifters will have to prepare for an all-out rebellion if they want to cut the head off the corruption that resides in Night-Wing. As Governor Raust struggles to bring justice and peace to her people, she must wrangle the manipulative Chief CODER Valdair, and decide who gets the final say over her destiny.
Warring Guilds are not the only problem in Night-Wing, when cracks begin appearing in the wall that protects citizens from the Dead Zone, panic begins to rise in the poorest parts of the city that lack protection. As civil war is brewing and the investigation into the growing murders continues, the characters of our story must face their greatest fears and prepare themselves to fight in a war that did not begin in the mortal realm.
The Project
The Small Gods originally started as a standalone novel in 2018, back when it was just called 'Small Gods'. The project was dropped in pursuit of a directing career, but 2021 changed everything. With the pandemic came the move to virtual work, and along with it the decision to experiment with turning The Small Gods into a television show.
Virtual table reads were held from March-May in 2021, as the pilot script was edited and prepped for a pitch to various studios. Concept art, original music and a short proof of concept were also created throughout the year as the team prepared to pitch. In December 2021, our creator Tabitha, after struggling to break through with pitching and facing many obstacles, turned back to its original form. Tabitha wrote The Small Gods into a full novel just shy of 700 pages which was finished in January 2022. As it stands, the novel has been submitted to several literary agents and she is hoping to hear something promising very soon.
Until then, she continues to edit the novel and has turned her attention to developing a prequel called Guild Of The Damned, which takes a deeper dive into the assassins Guild, and looks at the backstories of three main characters. In the long term, Tabitha hopes to publish a five-book series and develop The Small Gods into a television show.
